Adventures in black and white: positive and negative space

Here are some examples from my current show at the Dudley Public Library. The show's title is Carlos W. Byron: Life in black and white.
Zip's Last Day, Pen and ink on Bristol Board, 11" x 17"

Pencil, 9" x 12"

The Passing, Pen and ink on Bristol Board, 11" x 17

James Baldwin, Silverpoint drawing, 6" x 8"

Silverpoint is a medium of the Renaissance. It was used before pencil. It is also used as a foundation for egg tempera paintings. As it ages the values become darker, but they maintain their silvery glow from the excess silver deposited on the gesso surface.

Franklin Park, Charcoal and carbon pencil, 16" x 20"
Franklin Park, Roxbury is favorite location for me with lot's of great memories. This piece isn't in the show, but I'm posting here for you.
